These photos from October 2011 in New York’s Central Park are a collaboration with artist Deborah Renee Kaplan. Though I pushed the button in my capacity as photographer, Deborah decided what the camera saw: she chose locations, modeled and styled and creative directed the shoot. In her daily life, Debbie wears a uniform of black sportswear, but she houses an elegant, carefully curated collection of dresses and shoes. Debbie aimed not to capture a descriptive portrait of herself but to create a more anonymous image of someone who could somehow be any woman out in New York in the evening. For this shoot, Debbie wore a Zoran dress, which she modified, and Chanel pumps. I love working with Debbie because I learn from and am influenced by her aesthetic and visual sensibility.
